I support your cause. But, just to be precise, as true as there is not god, Catalunya is not a country.
Thanks.

There was an intelligent article by Joan Bakewell on the Times website:
“No-God squad climb aboard the atheist bus:
the bus-funders are young people who feel that no one is listening to them”

The Slogan There’s probably no God is just that a slogan and a poor one at that, it is built upon false proposition and pre-supposition.
Probably – an indefinite article, why? If the BHS, Dawkins or other atheists we’re so sure why not write there is No God? Is there still doubt?
Journalists and Scientist who have set out to disprove God in a collected manner and have turned to follow God, for example Lee Stroble. Dawkins begins The God Delusion with pre-suppositions about the church, many if not all of which are false.
My argument is thus, if the BHS believes there is no God, then surly it is time to stand up for this belief? Instead of a non thought provoking poorly written statement ‘There’s probably no God’ which does little more than fill column inches and increase website traffic why not publish an absolute?
God, the only True God, God of the Bible – Sola Deo Gloria
October 24th, 2008 at 19:38
So, which god is that then? Yahweh, the old god of the jewish tribes? Baal, the dying and rising sun god? Joshua, the man-god of the old testament? Jesus, the new testament son-of-man-god? El-Eljon, the lord most high? Molech, the child-sacrifice god? Athtar, the fertility goddess? El, the first one and father of Yahweh? Tammuz the god of vegetation? Chemosh, the sun god?
Pick one, so that we know what you might be talking about.

You listed ”dagblad ” as the Dutch newspaper writing about uit. I clicked it because I wondered which dagblad (the word “dagblad” just means “daily paper”). I see it’s the Nederlands Dagblad, a christian newspaper… the article isn’t that positive… I’ve tried to google a better one but it doesn’t get much coverage here.

In reply to nullifidian’s ill informed comments; please note the distinction in the bible between God and god.
The only true God of the bible is the triune God, the name used in the OT is often YHWH. Being the triune God, Jesus is the Son of God so there is no problem there.
It is true there are other names for God in the bible, but that is surly another discussion as they are all terms for the one true God rather than other Gods.
The other god’s you mention are not biblical or are not true god’s i.e. they were created by man for his purpouses.

Rhys White, how do you disprove anything? You disprove Santa first and then I’ll disprove god.
October 27th, 2008 at 9:50
In reply to Simon, to disprove a god would be very easy as a god is a human creation, God is not, God is Infinite and Immutable.
Also disproving Santa is a very easy task, Santa or Father Christmas was a character created, possibly based on a characterisation of a man who did good works.
Disproving something is genuinely fairly easy, apart from nobody has successfully disproved the core Christian claims, in fact many who have tried have realized their folly and become Christians.
If you wish to disprove God, which I indeed challenge you to do so you can make a definite statement ‘there is no God’, you need the onus probandi which currently is not presented.

I’d just like to draw your attention to this:
“The Atheist’s Guide To Christmas” is the UK’s first atheist charity book, featuring contributions from Richard Dawkins, Derren Brown, Ben Goldacre, Simon Singh, Claire Rayner, David Baddiel, Charlie Brooker and many more. It’s been edited by Ariane Sherine, the creator of the hugely successful Atheist Bus Campaign. It’s out on Oct 1st and all royalties are going to the HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust. Please pre-order now:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Atheists-Guide-Christmas-Ariane-Sherine/dp/0007322615/
The Atheist’s Guide is a mix of humorous and poignant contributions from over 40 various prominent atheists. It’ll make an ideal Christmas gift for your atheist friends. Your religious friends will love it too, or, even better, it’ll put them in a foul mood for Xmas! So a win-win situation! More info on the Facebook group:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=128903634833
Your support will not only maintain the profile of atheism in the UK, it will also help raise funds for the very worthy THT charity. Please note that the contributors, and Ms Sherine, have waived payment for their considerable input into the “Guide”.
Thank you, and please pass this message on to everyone you know!!
[My apologies if you already know about the Guide!]
