ABC Stickers Covered By Telegraph!

25.02.09 | Ariane |

Hurray! The Daily Telegraph just reported on our new Atheist Bus Campaign window stickers, which are available here:

Atheist bus campaign launches car bumper stickers

The atheist advert campaign is spreading from buses to cars with the release of a “There’s probably no God” bumper sticker.

The 12in stickers are being sold to raise money for groups including the British Humanist Association [correction: a donation from each sale goes to the Atheist Bus Campaign, not the BHA, and definitely no other groups!] which organised for atheist posters to be displayed on the side of 800 buses around the country.

That campaign attracted complaints from more than 300 people, but the provocative messages now look set to get a wider airing on the windows of non-believing motorists.

The stickers cost £2 each or £12.50 for a packet of ten. Also available from the official Atheist Bus Campaign website are T-shirts and badges bearing the sceptical slogan: “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”

The campaign was the brainchild of the comedy writer Ariane Sherine who wanted to counter what she saw as the “threatening” adverts bought on the side of buses by some Christian churches. Her unprecedented appeal raised £140,000 after winning the support of prominent atheist including the biologist Professor Richard Dawkins.

She has since been invited to deliver a non-religious version of Thought for the Day on Radio 4, while atheist groups in countries including Canada and Italy have attempted to launch their own bus adverts.

Last month the Advertising Standards Authority said it would not investigate the posters, ruling that they did not breach any part of its code.

Some complainants claimed the adverts were offensive while others said that their central claim about God’s existence could not be substantiated.

Although I am not an atheist I appreciated learning about your campaign today, and hope to see it arriving here is the USAmerica some time in the near future.

I don’t know if you get many positive comments from the God believing side of the fence, but I personally wanted to be at least one.

I think your message is clear, refreshing, and challenges a great dialog to take place in the marketplace of ideas.

    Dear Atheist,

Jesus foresaw that there would be those (Atheist) who would not believe in Him. Jesus said, “…there are some of you who do NOT believe.” (John 6:64).

The cause of atheism may be that “Satan…blinds the minds of unbelievers,….” (2 Cor. 4:4).

If a person does not believe, they can ask Jesus to “help them overcome their unbelief!” (Mark 9:24).

These “no God” adverts are grossly offensive. It is sad that a society can sink to such low depths, but one can’t expect more from a nation filled with alcoholic celebrity-watching live-for-todayers.

    richard Says:

Although there are hidden and camouflaged evil in every society, it is generally the norm in human society to condemn evil. The teachings of God in the bible are against all evil. To deny the existence of God is to favor evil. The slogan “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life” implies that there is a struggle deep inside the heart of the formulators of such a slogan. However they are trying to shrug it off, because they want to find a way of escape from feeling guilty in their heart due to all the evil they are doing.

(ROMANS 2:15) Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) (KJV)

The formulators of such slogans are trying to escape all these realities because they are not real people:

    1. The reality that there is a Creator of everything that exist;

(ACTS 17:24) God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; (KJV)

    2. The reality that everything that exists was planned and created for a purpose. (The harmony in the natural and physical universe cannot logically be the product of an accident or a Big Bang)

(ROMANS 1:19) Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. (KJV)

(ROMANS 1:20) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (KJV)

(JOB 34:13) Who has given the earth as a deposit with Him? Or who has set the whole world in order? (MKJV)

(PROVERBS 8:29) when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, (RSV)

    3. The reality that the Bible speaks of scientific truth even before they were discovered by human science because such declaration came from an existing God.

(ISAIAH 40:22) It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: (KJV)

(JOB 26:7) He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing. (KJV)

    4. The reality that present-day happenings were predicted in the bible thousands and hundreds of years ago before by an existing God.

(ISAIAH 46:9) Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, (KJV)

(ISAIAH 46:10) Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: (KJV)

(MATTHEW 24:3) And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? (KJV)

(MATTHEW 24:4) And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. (KJV)

(MATTHEW 24:5) For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. (KJV)

(MATTHEW 24:6) And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. (KJV)

(MATTHEW 24:7) For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. (KJV)

(MATTHEW 24:8) All these are the beginning of sorrows. (KJV)

    5. And, the reality of their very existence that the prophecy of the coming of “scoffers” is being fulfilled in their person!

(II PETER 3:3) Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, (KJV)

Throughout the history of man, those who believed and served God with all their hearts were the greatest men that this world had ever seen. They were the best public servants, the best heroes, the best mentors, the best leaders, and the best neighbors — NONE OF THESE BEST MEN IS AN ATHEIST!

I’m a little confused about these stickers. They’re described as bumper stickers but also window stickers. I personally would love some proper bumper stickers, but I’m a lot less interested in window stickers. Can we have some genuine bumper stickers please?

Also, why is it that the religious seem to feel the need to quote scripture at the very people that completely reject its source and validity.

There also seems to be a few people who need to re-examine their personal standards if they truly believe that such a simple statement really is in any way offensive.

I find it funny that the faithful immediately start quoting scripture to convince and convert those not of their religion. They might as well be quoting from Moby Dick, as it will have just as much impact on me.

Is this because they truly want to save our souls from eternal damnation or because this is what they are taught they should do when confronted with non belief. Are they so insecure in their own belief that they need to seek out alternative views, not to convince the unconverted, but to convince themselves of their own belief, because this is all these types of comments achieve.

God or god? To Capitalize or not to capitalize? When one Capitalizes (God) they are referencing “the one and only God.”

The Holy Bible says, “I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God.” (Isaiah 45:5).

You are right in saying that God is one and there is NO other but him. (Mark 12:32).

And when god is written in lower case (god) they are referencing “the false god.”

The Holy Bible says, How long will you love delusions and seek false gods. (Psalm 4:2).

God said,”You shall have NO other gods before Me.” (Exodus 20:3).

Michael is quoting from the holy works of the Hammerites, a religious sect from the Thief video game series.

This has about as much validity as Bible Prophecy’s holy scripture, of course.

While we’re quoting from the “holy book”, why don’t we try some of these:

    Bit of extreme punishment here?
For anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon him.
    (Leviticus 20:9)

    Slighlty less extreme punishment:
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father.
    (Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)

Nurses, firemen, train drivers – sorry, you’ve got to die:
For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.
    (Exodus 35:2)

Wonderful system of justice – kill a murderers children for his crimes:
Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their fathers; Lest they rise and posses the earth, and fill the breadth of the world with tyrants.
    (Isaiah 14:21 NAB)

Ethnic Cleansing – it’s endorsed by the bible!
My angel will go before you and bring you to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites; and I will wipe them out.
    (Exodus 23:23 NAB)

Erm, Rabbits don’t chew the cud:
You may eat any animal that has a split hoof divided in two and that chews the cud. However, of those that chew the cud or that have a split hoof completely divided you may not eat the camel, the rabbit, or the coney.
    (Deuteronomy 14:6-7)

Jesus can’t make up his mind!
If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid. (John 5:31)
Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid. (John 8:14)

And you live your life based on this vicious and contradictory mess of a book? It’s as unbelievable as the book itself.

  39. 39
    Matthew Says:

Bible Prophecy, what you forget about Psalm 14 and 53 is that they are prophetic in regards to the returning Messiah. These passages are prophetic in the sense that they have accurately predicted this current rise in Atheism prior to the Messiah’s return. If you focus on verse 7 of each psalm it says “when” as in related to the Messiah’s 2nd Coming. ;)

The other three passages of note are Romans 1:18-32, 2 Peter 3:3-10, 2 Timothy 3:1-5. All being an accurate representation of this current rise in Humanism and Atheism.

Note how Romans 1:18 says how unbelievers will suppress evidence of the truth, which is an accurate description of Atheists trying to discredit any Biblical evidence. For example Atheists trying to discredit the existence of Yahshua (Jesus), even going as far as discrediting secular accounts such as the Romans historians Tacitus and Suetonius.

Romans 1:21-22 shows how they knew about God (most Atheists being ex-Christians or brought up in a mainly Christian-Western society) but chose rather to base their beliefs on the images that represent evolution, as if somehow evolution disproves the existence of God. Atheists love the picture of “mortal man” the one of man evolving, they also love studying the evolution of “birds” such as Archaeopteryx, they love studying the evolution of “animals” like the latest missing link 47 million year old fossil of a lemur, and they obviously have a fascination with “reptiles” which is obviously describing the dinosaurs, which the Bible happens to describe as “gadowl tanniyn” in Genesis Day 5 which consisted of the time period 750,000,000 years to 250,000,000 years ago. Note to Atheists: read Gerald Schroeder’s The Science of God. The old universe theory correlates with the Biblical account.

Roman 1:28 is quite glaring since it confirms how Atheists “do not consider it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God.” They prefer a life void of knowing about God.

The 2 Peter 3 confirms Atheism’s antagonist view of believers, especially those who discuss the Second Coming of Christ, making a mockery of them and the Bible.

Not to Atheists: the year 2033 is 2000 years exactly of the Messiah’s crucifixion, and Hosea 6 confirms Yahshua will restore the Jews after 2 days (which means 2000 years). And plus the year 2033 will be exactly 6000 years since Adam’s fall, 1000 years for each day. Plus 2 Peter 3 tells us to link the creation account to the last 6000 years, as in each day of creation relates to each millennium since Adam’s fall. In other words we ARE in the last days, this is the generation which will see the end. And I’ve only briefly covered the rise in Atheism. I haven’t even started discussing hundreds of other prophecies, like a rise in Islam (Psalm 83 which is a real eye-opener of the desires of current day Islam, and their future outcome in Ezekiel 38 and 39).

So all this ABC stuff is not surprising since the Bible told us to expect it in Today’s age. Hurray for the Bible!

  41. 41

All you can do is sigh Richard?

You claim logic and reason but yet Atheists lack both. When confronted with evidence that makes a mockery of Atheism all Atheists can do is attempt to discredit the evidence on ridiculous reason, or turn away from it, pretending it doesn’t exist.

  42. 42
    Richard W Says:

    Hurrah for the Bible, Matthew?

Such a shame your Bible couldn’t predict that all those children would be abused by your God’s own Christian representatives here on earth.

And such a shame your God couldn’t lift a finger to help stop the suffering of those poor young victims, but instead allowed the perverted clergy to cover the abuse up for decades.

Yeah, so, let’s hear it for your amazing Bible… and your all-seeing, all-knowing, all-powerful God.

  43. 43
    quedula Says:

    Matthew,

You seem to have a very strange idea of the meaning of “evidence”. Quoting a 2000 year old text written by primitive, superstitious tribesmen does NOT constitute evidence.

I apologise if I am repeating what others on this blog have already said but it really is an incontrovertible fact.

  44. 44
    Matthew Says:

    Richard W:

Your comment typically demonstrates the reasons why Atheists always come to the wrong conclusions. They can’t even live up to their claim of using logic and reason for determining facts from fiction. You’ve made a mockery of your own beliefs, or lack thereof if you’d prefer me to be more politically correct.

Any sincere and unbiased seeker of truth will realise the Catholic Church are not based upon Scripture but are based upon paganism that stems from the religion of Mystery Babylon and the worship of sun-gods (such as Molech for one, archaeologically proven by the way). It’s evident they are power hungry and wealth seeking that couldn’t care less what the Scriptures have to say. If they actually cared one inch about Scripture they would have those pedophiles exterminated (killed) immediately. They clearly don’t listen to the authority of Scripture. And plus for Atheists to claim only religious people are pedophiles is unfactual, because there are plenty of Humanists who murder, cause wars, rape, steal, lie (Dawkins claiming that only REAL scientists are Atheists), cheat, commit pedophilia, etc. It’s pretty evident that Humanism (i.e. the USSR in the last century) has been just as evil as some religious folk. And also, the nature of the Catholic pedophiles demonstrates the accuracy in the prophecies discussing them, the Scriptures said they would turn from natural affections to unnatural affections. The Sciptures even call the religious system they created as the seat of Satan.

Atheists are no better than religious folk. You claim tolerance but are the most intolerant of all people, it wouldn’t be a big leap for current day Atheists to turn to violence in order to exterminate religious folk.

    Quedula:

What you said is like me say “quoting Darwin who lived over 150 years ago does NOT constitute evidence.” Or even “Roman historians who lived 1900 years ago does NOT constitute evidence and cannot be used as secular evidence to prove the existence of Yahshua.” Absolutely ridiculous! Can’t you see the massive flaw in Atheistic thinking? Atheists make a mockery of themselves, quite ironic really.

We use ancient texts and archaeological evidence to determine and know history. Let’s face it quedula, whether ancient or modern evidence challenges Atheism Atheists will do their utmost to discredit it or pretend it doesn’t exist. If Atheists had their way they would completey wipe historical evidence off the map in order to fit their agenda.

God forewarned us that in this day and age there would be a rise in Humanism, and a voiceful and intolerant one at that. Very relevant to this day and age especially since it’s an accurate account.

  45. 45
    quedula Says:

I agree with you Matthew, that quoting what Darwin said does not of itself constitute evidence. But he does tell us where to look for evidence in the world around us. Things we can see, things we can handle and analyse.

Atheists don’t need to “wipe historical evidence off the map” because there isn’t any. What you are talking about are historical myths and superstitions.

  46. 46
    Richard W Says:

Is this it Matthew? Is the point of your life the pursuit of an old middle-eastern myth?

You believe Adam & Eve sired the entire human race, a talking snake changed the destiny of humanity, Jesus was born of a virgin and then became a zombie… and you even believe in demons and the devil!

You have the most powerful, one true God to inspire you, and all you can do is bleat old passages from a dusty book inspired by bronze-age goatherd tales. Oh, and then you moan at atheists because we don’t take your incoherent ramblings seriously.

You’ve got to be one of those sad weirdos who preaches at busy shoppers on a Saturday morning, ignored by all. Do you live near Camberwell?

Surely Matthew, you and your all-powerful God can do better than this?

I’d just like to draw your attention to this:

“The Atheist’s Guide To Christmas” is the UK’s first atheist charity book, featuring contributions from Richard Dawkins, Derren Brown, Ben Goldacre, Simon Singh, Claire Rayner, David Baddiel, Charlie Brooker and many more. It’s been edited by Ariane Sherine, the creator of the hugely successful Atheist Bus Campaign. It’s out on Oct 1st and all royalties are going to the HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust. Please pre-order now:

The Atheist’s Guide is a mix of humorous and poignant contributions from over 40 various prominent atheists. It’ll make an ideal Christmas gift for your atheist friends. Your religious friends will love it too, or, even better, it’ll put them in a foul mood for Xmas! So a win-win situation! More info on the Facebook group:

Your support will not only maintain the profile of atheism in the UK, it will also help raise funds for the very worthy THT charity. Please note that the contributors, and Ms Sherine, have waived payment for their considerable input into the “Guide”.

Thank you, and please pass this message on to everyone you know!!

[My apologies if you already know about the Guide!]
